This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") sets out the rules for lawful, safe, and respectful use of the Invena website, app, and related services (together, the "Service").
This AUP supplements our Terms of Service. If there is any conflict, the Terms prevail unless this AUP contains a more specific rule about misuse or abuse.
For rules about what you may store, share, or upload, please also see our Content & Use Policy.
1. Who this applies to
This AUP applies to anyone who:
- creates or uses an Invena account;
- accepts a Space invitation;
- uploads, shares, or manages information through the Service; or
- otherwise accesses the Service.
Space owners are responsible for invitations they send and for how their Space is used, subject always to this AUP and applicable law.
2. Lawful use
You must use the Service only for lawful purposes and in compliance with all laws that apply to you.
You must not use the Service to plan, promote, facilitate, or conceal illegal activity.
3. Account and access integrity
You must not:
- access, or attempt to access, another person's account, Space, or data without authorisation;
- circumvent sharing controls, role limits, or authentication measures;
- share credentials or allow others to use your account unless the Service expressly allows this;
- create accounts using false or misleading information;
- create accounts or Spaces to evade a suspension, restriction, or enforcement action; or
- use the Service if you are prohibited from doing so under applicable sanctions or export-control laws.
We may require re-authentication for sensitive actions to help protect your account and the Service.
4. Security and platform integrity
You must not:
- upload malware or attempt to introduce harmful code into the Service;
- probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Service without our prior written consent;
- interfere with or disrupt the Service, its infrastructure, or other users' use of the Service;
- scrape, harvest, or collect data from the Service by automated means except through documented APIs we make available to you;
- reverse engineer or attempt to extract source code, except to the extent permitted by applicable law; or
- impose an unreasonable load on the Service, including by excessive automated requests, bulk invitations, or upload patterns intended to exhaust resources.
We use rate limits and monitoring to help protect the Service. For more information, see our Security page.
5. Sharing and invitations
Invena is built around trusted sharing within Spaces. You must use invitations responsibly.
When you send an invitation, you are responsible for ensuring you have the right to contact that person and to share the relevant Space information with them.
You must not:
- invite people you do not know or do not trust to access sensitive household information;
- send misleading invitations, including by disguising the Space purpose or your identity;
- use invitations for spam, marketing, bulk unsolicited contact, or mass outreach unrelated to genuine household or trusted sharing;
- scrape, harvest, or upload address books or contact lists without permission, or invite people whose details you obtained improperly;
- send repeated unwanted invitations to harass someone or retaliate if they decline;
- pressure someone to accept an invitation or retaliate if they decline;
- share information about another person without authority or a lawful basis to do so; or
- use the Service as a company workspace, to provision access for multiple employees as if it were an organisation product, or to operate seat-like administration for a business, unless we have agreed a business plan with you in writing.
You may invite trusted people to help you manage your own Space. Do not share login credentials to bypass role controls.
Receiving an invitation email does not itself create an account or grant access. Invena sends invitation emails as transactional messages on the inviter's instructions. The invitee must sign in or create an account and accept the invitation in the app before they can access the Space.
6. Respect for others
You must not use the Service to harass, threaten, abuse, defame, or harm others, or to encourage others to do so.
You must not impersonate another person or misrepresent your relationship to a Space, household, or organisation.
Display names and profile photos must not be abusive, harassing, impersonating, or misleading. They must not contain URLs or branding that suggests official Invena or third-party authority (for example “Invena Support”). We may change or remove display names or profile photos that breach this policy or our Content & Use Policy.
7. Membership and loyalty cards
You may store information and images relating to membership, loyalty, or similar cards that you lawfully hold or are authorised to manage.
You must not:
- present Invena-stored cards or barcodes as an official merchant pass or digital card;
- upload or share a card, membership number, or barcode without authority;
- recreate official merchant card layouts, holograms, or distinctive trade dress to imply affiliation;
- scrape merchant catalogues or programme data into the Service; or
- use a stored or generated card, barcode, or membership identifier to impersonate another member, obtain benefits dishonestly, or circumvent a merchant’s programme rules.
Invena does not issue, verify, or guarantee memberships, points, or entitlements. Merchant names and branding are for identification only. An ordinary user photograph of a card you lawfully hold is different from recreating official merchant artwork to imply affiliation.
8. Intellectual property and confidentiality
You must not use the Service to infringe intellectual property rights or misuse confidential information you are not entitled to share.
You are responsible for ensuring that you have the right and authority to upload and share User Content, including documents that relate to other people. See the Terms of Service for more on User Content.
9. Beta use and fair use
During private beta, the Service is free and subject to capacity and abuse controls.
We may apply reasonable limits on storage, uploads, invitations, API use, document processing, and support load to help keep the Service stable for all users. We may describe material limits in product documentation or a separate Fair Use Policy if and when those limits are formalised.
We may throttle, restrict, or suspend use that we reasonably believe is excessive or abusive, including during beta.
10. Monitoring and enforcement
We do not routinely review all activity or User Content. However, we may investigate suspected violations of this AUP, our Content & Use Policy, or the Terms.
Where reasonably necessary, we may:
- remove or restrict content;
- revoke invitations or adjust roles;
- suspend or terminate accounts or Spaces; and
- report activity to law enforcement or regulators where required or appropriate.
We will take reasonable account of the circumstances, including good-faith household use, before taking action. Nothing in this AUP limits our rights under the Terms.
11. Reporting abuse

Please include relevant details where possible, such as the Space name, dates, and what happened.
We may not be able to disclose the outcome of any investigation to reporters.
12. Changes to this AUP
We may update this AUP from time to time. We will post the current version at www.invena.app/acceptable-use with an updated "Last updated" date.
If we make material changes, we may also notify users in the app or by email.
Continued use of the Service after an updated AUP takes effect means you accept the updated version, to the extent permitted by law.
